Bensons is one of Bristol’s oldest building, contracting and development companies. Previously known as Benson Bros (Bristol) Ltd, we have now adopted the all encompassing new brand of Bensons.

Bensons was founded in 1939 by Four Benson brothers who set up shop in a house on the then little used Gloucester Road on the north edge of the city. Bensons was founded as a family business and today it continues as a business run by relatives of the founding Benson family. During the last 70 years, Bensons has built an enviable reputation as a quality contractor and developer and has been instrumental in building and maintaining some of Bristol’s most prestigious and iconic properties. Bensons maintains a portfolio of high value projects across a broad range of property sectors.

The name Bensons has become synonymous with quality, reliability, efficiency and professionalism in all elements of the business, which has enabled us to have such a long and illustrious history. Bensons specialises in both commercial and residential property construction, development and maintenance with a special skill for renovating heritage buildings. Furthermore, we are keen eco warriors and are committed to improving the sustainability of the built environment and embrace all aspects of green, eco building techniques and materials.

In 2008 the Trustees and members of the Board concluded that the time was right to prepare Bensons for the next 70 years in its illustrious history. The challenge in the current economic downturn was to consolidate Bensons’ current position, evaluate the assets of the company, plan a development programme, acquire new property assets as prices were favourable for acquisition, diversify into new markets and geographical locations, streamline the administration of the business and move into modern offices.

Faces changed, buildings changed, Bensons received a re-brand and working practices were heightened with focus now spread across a wider field. Even so, with so many forward strides being made, Bensons will continue to take a backwards glance, in order to remember where the business came from and to uphold the ethos installed in those early years that have since become the Bensons ethos.

Bensons is financially secure, does not rely on borrowing for its development programmes and in the current economic market can be relied upon to be a safe pair of hands into which any client may entrust any project. Here's to the next 70 years of Bensons!
